At The Green Seed we have a passion for plants and can help design an appealing planting plan that utilizes the principles of landscape design to create an eye catching landscape. As a sustainable company we prefer to focus on drought tolerant plants which include many natives, edibles and pollinator attractors. Some of these plants may come from our own nursery which does not use any pesticides or chemical fertilizers. We are also happy to incorporate your ideas and offer suggestions to create a beautiful outdoor living space that speaks to your personal style.

*We offer light, medium and heavy planting options depending on your needs.

Natives

We believe that our Oregon native plants are some of the best suited plants for your yard. Because they are from here they are well adapted to our region which means they need less water in the summer and often very little other care. In addition to being low maintenance, they can transform your yard into a habitat. Native plants can provide food and shelter to our local insects, birds and other wildlife that have lost habitat due to urban development. We use natives in all our our designs which use natural concepts creatively to bring beauty and function into your yard. Our designs are created for people and nature to coexist and we strive to provide wildlife habitat, reduce watering and manage storm-water runoff on-site to reduce water pollution.

Pollinators

Pollinators play a crucial role in nature and in our food supply. Unfortunately many of them are in danger because of habitat loss, pesticides and other pressures of the human way of life. You can do your part to save them by creating a mini pollinator refuge in your back yard by using a wide variety of perennial flowers with different shapes and colors. Many of these flowers will continually bloom throughout the growing season giving you a long lasting splash of color.

Xeriscaping

Xeriscaping is a way of creating an appealing garden that requires no irrigation once the plants are established. Many of our clients have replaced their parking strips with xeriscapes which has reduced the amount of maintenance in that space. We focus on using native and drought tolerant plants which are either mulched with nutrient rich compost or crushed rock which gives it a desert landscaping look and adds minerals to the soil that encourage healthy plants.

Playscapes

Playscapes are created with the little members of the household in mind. In our playscapes we use native and edible plants, tree stumps, rocks, sandpits and more. The simple natural elements encourage a wide range of creative and imaginative play options. We design playscapes with the intention of bringing children of all ages outside and in to nature. Let us create a play area in your yard that will have everyone wanting to get outside.

Rain Gardens

Rain Garden (also known as a bio-swale) is a great way to help protect our local watersheds. A Rain Garden is essentially a shallow depression in your yard designed to capture and temporarily store rain water run off from impervious surfaces such as roofs, driveways and patios and allow it to soak into the ground. Most often it is connected to your downspout to collect roof water as this is the easiest way to re-direct water into a rain garden. Rain water runoff carries a lot of pollutants that can potentially enter our local watersheds. Managing storm water on-site by letting it naturally filter in the ground is a great way to reduce water pollution. Rain Gardens often look like a planted dry creek bed and will create a uniquely beautiful addition to your yard that will impress your friends, family and neighbors while helping to protect the environment. They are usually heavily planted because plants help to soak up excess water and reduce pollutants.
